Myrica - 17th Place in SBX Nationals at Cypress Mtn

Myrica Hinich weathers international race in spite of injury

Mt. Cypress, B.C. ~ In a determined push under gruelling, foggy and dangerous conditions 19 year old Hinich placed 17th overall of 37 international competitors from Canada, Switzerland, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden and the U.S.A. at Mt Cypress near Vancouver. Organizers nearly cancelled the races due to thick fog.

“We could barely follow the course in the fog during the race, didn't see the landing after the big jumps and just crashed sometimes, but I loved the course the day before in good weather, it really flowed”, Hinich explained while talking to family at home. “We were invited by sponsors to a dinner cruise along the coast line of Vancouver after the races. It was amazing!”

Hinich almost did not participate in the Nationals due to an unfortunate re-injury to her ankle during her Level 2 snowboarding instructor course just days before. However, her competitive spirit persevered and she competed in the Nationals April 4th along with many members of international teams.

Mt Cypress offered a race course four times longer and more difficult than any other course relative newcomer Hinich has ever pursued. It is compatible to the boarder cross course Canada will show during the 2010 Olympics.

Due to her solid race results Hinich showed this season she qualified for the Nationals almost out of nowhere as an independent racer. She has been formally invited to the B.C. Provincial Team selection camp next weekend.

Hinich supported herself in B.C. this season as snowboarding instructor and furthered her education by taking courses in coaching, and instructing besides participation in various B.C. and NorAm races and plans to race in 2008/2009.

Sponsors at this time include Fuzed Notions Graphic Designs; Algoma's Watertower Inn, Filtrec Technical Filtration & Main Filter Group.
