Myrica - 17th Place in SBX Nationals at Cypress Mtn

Myrica Hinich weathers international race in spite of injury

Mt. Cypress, B.C. ~ In a determined push under gruelling, foggy and dangerous conditions 19 year old Hinich placed 17th overall of 37 international competitors from Canada, Switzerland, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden and the U.S.A. at Mt Cypress near Vancouver. Organizers nearly cancelled the races due to thick fog.

“We could barely follow the course in the fog during the race, didn't see the landing after the big jumps and just crashed sometimes, but I loved the course the day before in good weather, it really flowed”, Hinich explained while talking to family at home. “We were invited by sponsors to a dinner cruise along the coast line of Vancouver after the races. It was amazing!”

Hinich almost did not participate in the Nationals due to an unfortunate re-injury to her ankle during her Level 2 snowboarding instructor course just days before. However, her competitive spirit persevered and she competed in the Nationals April 4th along with many members of international teams.

Mt Cypress offered a race course four times longer and more difficult than any other course relative newcomer Hinich has ever pursued. It is compatible to the boarder cross course Canada will show during the 2010 Olympics.

Due to her solid race results Hinich showed this season she qualified for the Nationals almost out of nowhere as an independent racer. She has been formally invited to the B.C. Provincial Team selection camp next weekend.

Hinich supported herself in B.C. this season as snowboarding instructor and furthered her education by taking courses in coaching, and instructing besides participation in various B.C. and NorAm races and plans to race in 2008/2009.

Sponsors at this time include Fuzed Notions Graphic Designs; Algoma's Watertower Inn, Filtrec Technical Filtration & Main Filter Group.

The "UC" wraps up for the year - What a great season

Many thanks are needed for everyone that was involved in getting this program off the ground and for keeping it running great. The level of progression that was seen over the course of the season in both the ski and snowboard group was truly inspiring.

Hope to see you all again next year.

Myrica - 2nd Place in FIS NorAm SBX Finals at Castle Mountain, Alberta

SBX qualifier Hinich captures place on podium after difficult race

Castle Mountain, AB ~ Searchmont's Myrica Hinich moved one step ahead while finishing 2nd of 17 racers during the Finals in the Snow Board Cross Championship at Castle Mountain, Alberta on Sunday.

On Saturday Hinich also qualified, but participants collided during the first heat, which moved her back to 12th place, yet leaving her relatively unharmed.
Participants were predominantly Canadian, with others from Norway, Japan, New Zealand and the USA.

According to one of the B.C. Provincial Snowboard coaches, independent SBX racer Hinich is firmly “on the radar” of the B.C. Provincial Team after her last three solid race results, with an invitation to attend the selection camp in April at Whistler.
At the moment Hinich also needs to pursue serious financial sponsorships which will enable her to top her present success and advance to the next level. She is well on her way to that level.

Hinich came in 3rd in the B.C. Provincial Finals at Big White, 4th in the B.C. Provincial Series race at Big Red, and 7th in the Nationals at Cypress Mtn in April 2007. She qualifies for the 2008 Nationals, which will take place on April 4th and 5th at Cypress Mtn near Vancouver.

Sponsors at this time include Fuzed Notions Graphic Designs; Algoma's Watertower Inn, Filtrec Technical Filtration & Main Filter Group.

Myrica - 3rd Place in Big White B.C. Provincial SBX Finals

Powerful Performance places independent Myrica Hinich on the Podium

Big White, B.C. ~ During the B.C. Provincial Boarder Cross Series Finals in Big White B.C. Searchmont local Myrica Hinich perseveres again with a determination only a Northern Ontario girl can bring forward. In the Finals she secured 3rd Place overall of 17 competitors.

Painful shin splints forced Hinich to take the gondola off the slopes at Whistler Black Comb only as recently as Wednesday, after a day of steady snowboarding instructor work.

During a conversation with family back home in Sault Ste Marie she admitted: “I am not sure if I can do the race at Big White, I am in such pain”.

However, she decided to take a brake from instructing Thursday and made the commitment to travel to Big White with another competitor by vehicle the following morning.

Hinich came in 4th in the qualification run, followed by 1st place in the first heat, 2nd place in the second heat, 3rd place in the third heat.

With her strong work ethics her snowboarding career can take her to the top, however, funding plays a major roll in the outcome of her career. Presently Myrica Hinich is looking for sponsorship in her home town of Sault Ste Marie to back her up in future training efforts, travel to the competitions and purchase of top notch equipment to further improve her already impressive performances.

Sponsors are presently Fuzed Notions Graphic Designs; Algoma's Watertower Inn, Filtrec Technical Filtration & Main Filter Group.

Myrica - 4th Place in Red Mountain B.C. Provincial SBX Race

4th Place in Red Mountain B.C. Provincial SBX Race
Searchmont's Hinich persists after “big crash” during training

Red Mountain, B.C. ~ During the B.C. Provincial Boarder Cross Series race in Red Mountain B.C. former Searchmont resident Myrica Hinich came in 4th out of 14 competitors in the Senior Women's FIS category.

“I had a pretty good day”; reflects Hinich, “I qualified 2nd and came in 4th altogether. I'm okay with that except for the fact that I was way ahead in First, but fell right near the end in the finals...in the heat before finals I fell in the exact same place! In the first heat I got up right away and still came in second somehow, meaning I advanced to the finals. I raced well for the rest of the day...and that's all I came away from that race with..is knowing that I rode it real well until the fall. I am still not quite over it...I had it...it was so close and it could have been mine! During training yesterday I had a big crash on the first feature and was pretty sore all day today.”

Red Mountain was the first FIS points race Hinich participated in since the Canadian Open Snowboard Cross Finals at Mt Cypress in Vancouver in April 2007. At the time she was a member of the Ontario SBX team and competed all over Canada.

This season she opted to reside in Whistler B.C. to gain experience as a snowboarding instructor. She impressed by placing 1st in the ATOMIC Super Boarder Cross race January 20th 2008. She then decided to sign up for this first race as an independent FIS competitor.

What's next? Hinich is back into competitions:

~ Big White B.C. Provincial SBX Series Finals on March 2nd
~ Canadian Open Snowboard Cross Tour in Castle Mountain AB on March 15 / 16
~ Canadian Snowboard Cross Nationals in Mt Cypress B.C. On April 4 / 5 (venue for snowboarding at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games)

as well as:

~ Whistler Coaching course March 8 – 10
~ Level 2 instructor course March 24- 27

Local sponsors include Filtrec & Main Filter, Fuzed Notions Graphic Design, Algoma's Watertower Inn, Back in Motion.

Myrica gratefully thanks her sponsors for continuing to believe in her persistence.

Myrica Hinich placed 1st in her category at the ATOMIC Super Boarder Cross race in Whistler B.C. Hinich came in first during qualifications on Saturday and succeeded on Sunday during the final race.

Whistler is her residence at this time, where the 19 year-old chose to instruct snowboarding this season, while competing when she has the opportunity. She was one of only two females, the other from Japan, chosen to instruct an Australian group in the prestigious “Yes” program for the past week. During the 2006 / 2007 winter season Hinich was the front runner on the Ontario Boarder Cross Team, competing all over Canada.

SAFA, the local “Searchmont and Area Freestyle Alliance” has evolved from last winters efforts and is now offering competitions for local youth in snowboarding and skiing freestyle competitions.
